Museum
The restored depot is the original depot that witnessed the pursuit of the steam locomotive General during the Civil War. The 1847 Railroad Depot is home to the Adairsville Rail Depot Age of Steam Museum. Open Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the museum is a department of the City of Adairsville and introduces visitors to the heritage of one of Georgia's most historic cities. The museum features displays of Adairsville's role in the Civil War railroad espionage attempt by Andrews' Raiders, known as The Great Locomotive Chase. Additional exhibits include railroad memorabilia and tributes to early life in Adairsville.
Tours
The Adairsville Visitors Center, division of the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention and Visitors Bureau, is a good place to stop and pick up information on area shops, motels, restaurants and attractions. You also can pick up a brochure about the Adairsville Historic District—Adairsville was the first Georgia town (December 1987) to be listed in its entirety on the National Register of Historic Places.
