West Central Georgia

Whether you call it "hiking" or "walking," an on-foot experience along Columbus's 15-mile linear park, Columbus Riverwalk, is an unforgettable outdoor treat. Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center provides a hands-on connection with the out-of-doors. Callaway Gardens gives you a wide variety of outdoor experiences from golfing and fishing to hiking and biking at a 13,000-acre award-winning resort. Other outdoor experiences include West Point Lake. The Flint River Outdoor Center has been providing rentals, guided tours and good advice for canoeists, kayakers and rafters on the Flint River since the mid-70s.

Museums, History, Culture. A variety of museums, historical houses and cultural experiences bring the region's past to life. Columbus Museum, with its emphasis on Native American history and life in the Chattahoochee Valley, makes that past seem like yesterday. Westville makes the 1850s as real as this morning's headlines. The National Infantry Museum traces the history of the U.S. infantryman. Learn about the naval history of the Civil War at the Port Columbus National Civil War Naval Museum. LaGrange Art Museum and the Lamar Dodd Art Center at LaGrange College display top regional and national art. Experience hands-on space, science and astronomy and watch laser and star shows at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center.
