This excursion train with 1949 vintage cars travels across Southwest Georgia on a trip that stops at six different interesting and unique Georgia destinations.
The route of the Southwest Georgia Excursion Train, known as the SAM Shortline, includes Cordele, Georgia Veterans State Park, Leslie, Americus, Plains and Archery, the location of Jimmy Carter's boyhood home. Each run has at least one layover city where you may shop for an hour or more.
Each year during October, SAM Shortline offers a 25-minute ride with a full-size Thomas the Tank Engine, which is very popular with kids and parents.
