Overlooking the Snake Creek Gorge in Whitesburg are 1,200 wooded acres that are being touted as one of the best weekend getaways in Georgia. The Lodges at Historic Banning Mills offers guests lodging at a romantic bed and breakfast, a day spa, dining, meeting venues, camping, and numerous recreational activities, including the largest zip line Eco Canopy Tour in the world!
Located on the site of a historic mill town, the resort is only 45 minutes from the Atlanta Airport but enjoys the beautiful terrain of Snake Creek Gorge as well as the picturesque shoals and 70-foot falls of Snake Creek.
Lodging
Historic Banning Mills has 12 spacious Jacuzzi rooms with private baths, king beds, double Jacuzzi tubs, hide-a-bed couches, gas fire logs and decks. There are 10 country-elegant log cabin suites that are furnished with a queen bed, jetted tubs, private bath, breakfast area, gas fire logs and a loft with two twin beds. Five cozy cottages feature an efficiency kitchen, queen bed, private bath, futon, sleeping loft and electric fire logs. The lodge building has 20 lodge rooms. These rooms have king beds that can be made into two extra long and wide twin beds, private baths and a deck overlooking the enchanting Snake Creek Gorge.
There is also an RV center with full size cabins, partial and full hookups and primitive camping.
Food
During your stay, you will wake up to a hot breakfast, which is included in your overnight package. Choices for lunch and dinner are available with advance notice. Enjoy a freshly cooked, wonderfully prepared dinner by Banning Mills chefs. Where to eat can be almost as fun as what to eat. You can choose the dining room or the dining room addition, the "Tree Terrace," that sits 100 feet above Snake Creek.
Historic Banning Mills also offers in-room and tree terrace dinners, whether you are a couple wanting a romantic in-room delivery, or an organization seeking a four-star lodge dinner package. Banning Mills does not have an open restaurant, so meals, other than breakfast, which is included in your overnight stay, must be made with advance reservations.
Corporate Meetings and Retreats

Outdoors
If you are looking for extreme adventure, Banning Mills has the Tree Flight Zip Line Canopy Eco-Tour. It is one of the longest and highest Tree Canopy Eco-Tour Lines in the World. You will soar up to 60 miles per hour over 200 feet in the air!
Other outdoor amenities at Banning Mills include swimming pool, tennis, basketball court, sand volleyball, horseshoes, hiking and nature trails, softball field, miniature golf, catch and release fishing lake and Snake Creek. There are also recreational opportunities for horseback riding, kayaking, skeet and tandem sky diving.
The Historic Banning Mills mill ruins are another unique feature to be enjoyed while staying at Banning Mills. Textiles, paper, grist and lumber were all produced years ago at the mills, thanks to the power generated by 70-foot falls and shoals of Snake Creek, a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. There are hiking and nature trails so guests can walk on the old town roads, explore the ruins of the mills and enjoy the beauty of Snake Gorge.
