This circa 1851 house, which is on Historic Augusta’s walking tour of Telfair Street South, became the home of Amanda America Dickson Toomer in 1886. The daughter of Juila, a slave, and cotton planter David Dickson of Hancock County, Georgia, she inherited her father’s entire estate to become one of the wealthiest women of color in the United States at that time. The house, which is simple Greek Revival in style, is now home to a law firm.
