Allatoona Pass is a well-preserved Civil War battlfield near Cartersville. This little-known battle was one of the most furious of the war. Of the 5,301 men engaged in the Battle of Allatoona Pass on October 5, 1864, there were 1,603 casualties.
To get to the battlesite, take I-75 Exit 283 in Bartow County and go east on Old Allatoona Road for 1.5 miles. Cross the railroad tracks and go 1 mile. There are markers on the left.
