Located in Northwest Georgia 30 miles north of Atlanta, Allatoona Lake is one of 10 US Army Corps of Engineer-owned lakes in the state and one of the most visited Corps lakes in the nation. The 12,010-acre lake has 270 miles of shoreline. In the Coosa River watershed, it is formed by the Etowah River and Allatoona Dam.
Amenities at the lake include campgrounds, day use areas, hiking and biking trails, swimming, hunting, fishing, boating and picnic shelters. There are boat launching ramps located in 27 public recreation areas around the lake as well as 8 privately operated marinas that provide fuel, storage, boat repairs, rentals, supplies, and other boater's needs.
