Columbus, Georgia

Columbus, Georgia

Columbus, Georgia’s third largest city next to Atlanta and Savannah, is easily one of its more interesting and diverse. In the 1830s, it sprang up on the banks off the Chattahoochee River at the Fall Line where rapids and waterfalls created by the drop in elevation from the Piedmont Plateau to the Coastal Plain powered textile mills and iron factories. Entrepreneurs and residents prospered. Coca-Cola was invented here. Today the 22-mile-long Chattahoochee RiverWalk may be the most satisfying urban experience in the state, its pleasures complemented by the city’s fine performing arts, historical architecture, museums, galleries and restaurants.
