If you're looking for high-caliber, entertaining, musical theater, look no further than The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone, Georgia. This theatre ranks right up there with any theatrical performances going on anywhere in the state, the region, and across the country – for adults and children.

Our first experience with The Legacy Theatre was with an elementary school class to see a performance of “The Elves and the Shoemaker.” The acting was first-rate—not a weakness anywhere. The choreography was outstanding and, most importantly, the kids enjoyed themselves immensely. We immediately looked into the rest of the children’s series to see what was offered and ended up buying tickets for the remaining season.

Since then, we have seen a number of performances at The Legacy. In the “The Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy and the gang, singing and dancing Munchkins, poppies, trees and jitterbug ghosts mesmerized the entire audience. Recently, we enjoyed the Atlanta Premier of the off-Broadway hit, “The Marvelous Wonderettes.” The Legacy transported us to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where the Wonderettes – four girls “with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts” told us all about their lives and loves through classic 50s and 60s pop hits.

You can always count on a New York worthy performance at The Legacy. In fact, owners Bethany and Mark Smith are former Broadway performers who decided they wanted an outlet for their creative skills in a more people-friendly location.

The Legacy Theatre’s Children’s Series is also something to look into if you are within driving distance of Fayette County. Although this series is promoted to school groups, public performances are also scheduled.
