The Jekyll Island Club Hotel is Jekyll Island's only Four Star resort and National Historic Landmark. Enjoy casual and fine dining, nine miles of beach, bicycling, 63 holes of golf, tennis, historic tours, horseback riding, and much more. Our historic Jekyll Island Resort and Club is located off the Georgia coast, midway between Savannah, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. Situated between St. Simons Island and Cumberland Island, Jekyll is a short drive from the town of Brunswick and boasts of a salt marsh characteristic of the southeastern seaboard and a beach with the Atlantic Ocean lapping its shores. At 5,700 acres and a 33% limit on business development, Jekyll is the smallest of Georgia's barrier islands, yet resplendent with moss draped live oaks, marshes and remote beaches with natural sand dunes and indigenous wildlife. The resort presents 157 rooms and suites in five historic settings. Just as Club members did a century ago, choose from the Clubhouse (Main Hotel), the Annex, Sans Souci, or one of the Cottages - Crane Cottage and Cherokee Cottage.
The Clubhouse, the centerpiece of the present day Historic District, was constructed in 18 months and completed in time for the club's first season in 1888. Designed by Charles Alexander of Chicago the structure was exactly what J.P. Morgan, Vanderbilt and their friends desired. It is quintessentially American Queen Anne in architectural style. Alexander incorporated into its plan the turret, which dominates the roof line, encompassing verandas, bay windows, extended chimneys and overall asymmetrical design. Handsome interior details include Ionic columns in the dining room, twelve-and-fifteen-foot ceilings, oak wainscoting and other handsomely detailed woodwork, as well as leaded art glass and distinctively detailed fireplaces. As the luxury standard for Jekyll Island accommodations, The Clubhouse expressed a life of elegant leisure. View rooms and rates.
The Annex was added in 1901 to provide eight additional private apartments for Club members. This Annex was the first building to have indoor plumbing. Each club member was given a certain number of specially printed guest cards to invite friends to visit during the season. The "strangers," as the Club members referred them, were permitted to visit for no longer than two weeks. View rooms and rates.
Sans Souci, meaning "without care," was built in 1896. As previously mentioned, this six-unit apartment building is considered to be one of the first condominiums built in this country. The building now consists of 24 guest rooms and two private meeting rooms. It is perfect for board retreat style meetings as well as family reunions. The floors, leaded art glass, stairway and skylight are original. View rooms and rates.
Crane Cottage, (View floor plan) built in 1917 in classic Italianate design, offers 13 guest rooms and suites, lush gardens, courtyard dining and intimate meeting spaces. The sunken Garden area, terrace level above the garden and the surrounding grounds offer a perfect venue for wedding ceremonies up to 350 people. Additionally, Crane has a fountain courtyard with arcaded loggia and seating for up to 120 people. View rooms and rates.
Cherokee Cottage, (View floor plan) a stately villa built in 1904, has ten guest rooms and unique meeting space within its elegant interiors. This cottage has a billiard room complete with a handsome billiard table and is perfect for small groups or reunions.
