Named For Western & Atlantic Railroad engineer Joseph L. Gregg's hometown of Acworth, New Hampshire, which was named for English nobleman Lord Acworth Nickname "The Lake City" Known For Being surrounded by two lakes – Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona Most People Don't Know Acworth's Main Street evolved from a trading route used by the Cherokee Indians and was eventually incorporated as part of the old "Dixie Highway," the "Granddaddy of Interstate 75" In History Acworth was incorporated in 1840 and prospered as a railroad town on the Western and Atlantic Railroad (W&A) between Atlanta and Chattanooga. It was 35 miles to Atlanta via the railroad Don't Miss The Cowan Farmstead, constructed in 1854, is an excellent example of pre-Civil War plantation plain-type structures. It is owned by the Acworth Society for Historic Preservation
